New Original Commissions Vs.
Castable Sculptures Currently Available
|
Although every sculpture begins as a new original, copies or casts of an original piece can be made available in bronze or resin-stone. Most of the works found in this portfolio are currently available as casts. It is only the first cast that is considered the number one original and these casts are only offered in bronze metal due to the timeless nature of the material. Subsequent casts of original sculptures can be offered at a considerably lower cost than the originally commissioned piece due to the fact that the artist’s time and mould costs have already been covered. Although the number one cast of an original is more costly, it also has the greatest value and the highest percentage of appreciation over time. All subsequent casts of any given sculptures will also appreciate in value.

| Commissioning The Artist To Create An Original Sculpture |
|
Often times a patron is looking for a sculpture that depicts a certain theme that Timothy has not yet
created, in these cases Timothy must create a new work of art. This is also true regarding sculptures that Timothy has already created but are not available in the desired scale. New original commissions can be no less than “Model Size” in scale (2-3 ft.) and are cast in bronze metal only. The process of working with a fine artist can seem intimidating and complicated, yet it isn’t.
The steps are outlined below in simple terms:
Location and size:
The first step is to determine what size of sculpture is required for the intended space. Smaller 2-3
foot sculptures are appropriate for more intimate settings and tend to pull the viewer in for closer
examination. Larger sculptures make more of a statement of “who we are and what we believe”, even from a distance. Often times a patron may send photos of the area or have Timothy visit the site for his input regarding this matter.
Concept
The party that is commissioning the work of art is equally as responsible as the artist for the potential magnificence of the new sculpture. The desired concept must be conveyed to the artist while allowing
him the freedom to create a masterpiece. The information that should be conveyed to the artist is
simply what the desired image is (eg. “Christ with Children”) and what feeling or emotion is desired for the sculpture to evoke in the viewer. Details of facial expressions and gestures should be left to the artist’s discretion (when creating a smaller or larger scale version of a pre-existing sculpture this step is unnecessary as the image is already decided upon).
Quote
The third step of the process is for Timothy to give the commissioning party some idea as to what it might cost to create the image in the size they are looking for.
|
|
Sketch The next step is to have Timothy put his ideas down on paper and provide a starting point of the actual creation process. It is necessary for the commissioning party to understand that the sketch is not a blueprint but rather just a gestural drawing to illustrate the general concept of what he would like to create. Details of the faces and figures will be worked out in the clay stage of creation. (When creating a smaller or larger scale version of a pre-existing sculpture this step is unnecessary as the image is already decided upon.) |

Deposit
If the general concept of the sketch meets with approval, the commissioning party must simply have faith that the artist has the ability to create the detailed image in clay from seeing his other finished work. Generally a 50% deposit on the artwork is required and 30% on larger commissions.

Clay Original
Once the clay original is completed photos of the sculpture will be provided to the commissioning party for final approval prior to constructing the mould and casting the image in bronze metal.
|
|
Base Construction and Delivery Once approved the lengthy and complicated bronzing process begins. Upon completion of the bronze sculpture correspondence will commence regarding the artist’s recommendation for the base or pedestal that the commissioning party must have built for the piece. Advice, guidance and detailed instructions will be offered throughout this process to ensure that the display of the artwork meets the artist’s satisfaction. The sculpture will then be crated and shipped to the destination and the commissioning party will then make the necessary arrangements for the sculpture to be placed on the base. | ![]() |

Final Payment
Once the finished bronze sculpture has been delivered, the balance of the artwork, shipping and any duty costs will become due. It is suggested that the commissioning party provide the artist with photos of the finished work in its final setting for publication purposes. Timothy reserves all rights of
reproduction with respect to his original commissions.
